The use of glass-ceramic surface coatings applied to zirconia — essentially giving the restoration a bondable surface. By depositing a nano-sized layer of lithium disilicate (LD) glass-ceramic onto the zirconia surface, the restoration gains the etchable, silanisable characteristics of a glass ceramic, without sacrificing the mechanical advantages of the underlying zirconia.
